Checking Europe’s Employers: These are the Most Popular Listed Companies in Europe’s Largest Economies

Berlin, March 24, 2022 – Home office, short-time work, hygiene measures in the workplace – the last two years have posed major challenges for both employers and employees worldwide, highlighting the importance of the employee experience. With the pandemic situation changing, the deep tech and HR company Phenom (www.phenom.com) sums up and determines the most satisfactory employers in Europe at present. For doing so, the company evaluated a total of 5,927 ratings found on Glassdoor and Greatplacetowork relating to the five most high-turnover, listed corporations within the five largest European economies (Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands).
In Germany, Siemens Healthineers AG and Google score particularly well
As a manufacturer of medical technology, Siemens Healthineers AG receives an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 from its employees. They particularly appreciate the corporate culture with the extensive offers, benefits and flexible working models, but see room for improvement in career opportunities (4 points). Google is also on the same overall level with 4.5 points. Here, the staff value the salary above all. However, as a solo category senior management is rated lowest overall. The Porsche subsidiary MHP and Puma are tied for second place in the employee ranking. They received a final score of 4.3 points with particular praise for both companies’ corporate cultures. Be that as it may, employees noted that salaries and additional benefits leave scope for improvement., each category receiving only 3.7 points. At Puma, nonetheless, staff appreciate the special additional offers such as sports, the vegan canteen, special discounts and the working environment.
Salesforce, SAP and Murex are most popular among employees in France
Three software companies secure identical ratings (4.5 points) in France: U.S.-American Salesforce, German SAP and Murex from France itself. All three are particularly praised by their employees for their corporate cultures and salaries. As for Salesforce, the additional benefits are also among the reasons for positive ratings. However, the categories work-life balance and upper management are viewed somewhat more critically with 4.2 points each. SAP staff honour especially the financial benefits and flexible working hours. At Murex, the positive working atmosphere is added as a criterion, but there is still potential for optimization in career advancement with an accumulative rating of 4 points.
American Express sets standards in Italy, in Spain people prefer to work at DHL Express
In Italy, the payment service provider American Express is rated the most satisfactory of all companies listed on the stock exchange, with a score of 4.2. This is primarily due to the highly valued diversity and integration of the employees. Regarding the categories senior management, salaries and additional benefits, employees still see growth potential with a rating of 3.9 points each. The drug manufacturer MSD and the Hilton hotel chain scored 4.1 in total, placing them second just behind American Express
In Spain, both DHL Express and Vodafone received 4 points in their rating. In accordance with staff in Italy, the topics of diversity and integration ensure high ratings. Concerning Vodafone, career advancement opportunities are emphasised in particular. However, according to the data, both companies still have potential for optimization in the work-life balance of employees and in regards to their top-level management (ratings of 3.5-3.8 points).
In the Netherlands, two software companies and one biotechnology company impress
With 4.6 out of a possible 5 points, the software company Atlassian is right at the pole position of employer ratings in the Netherlands. This is primarily due to their corporate culture and work-life balance. As in France, Salesforce takes second place with 4.5 points. The biotechnology company Amgen secured 4.4 points in the overall assessment and thus places third.
About the survey
The data for this study was collected on the Glassdoor and Great Place to Work platforms in the period 20-24/02/22. It was based on the five countries with the strongest economies in the EU and their top-rated listed companies with an overall score of at least 4 points. In order to view only the ratings of the respective countries, filtering was always carried out in the respective language. The ratings are on a scale of 0 to 5. The overall value is given by the employees independently of the subcategories, i.e. it does not represent their average.
